Psychotherapy for Adults, Teens & Families
If you would like to learn more about my approach to individual therapy or to schedule an introductory session please call me at (510) 898 - 6553 or email me at Jennaroat@gmail.com..
My work entails helping parents, families and teenagers deal with a wide range of issues such as communication blocks, self-esteem issues, anxiety, attachment issues, depression, difficulty with peers, peer pressure, work ethic in school and home, mood management, media and gaming habits, self-control, emotional intelligence, cooperation and negotiation, self-compassion, and many other problems. In children and adolescents, talking, playing, and drawing are all important ways of sharing feelings and resolving problems in psychotherapy.
As part of the initial assessment period, I will evaluate specific concerns based on your teens and your family’s past and current struggles, developmental and familial history, cultural considerations, parent-child interactions, and ability to work together in treatment. The relationship that develops between myself and your teen (and family) is very important.
The goals for therapy may be focused (e.g. improving relations with peers at school) or more general (e.g. less anxiety and improved self-esteem). The length of psychotherapy varies and will partly depend on the complexity and intensity of the concerns.
